We would love to have you present with us!

Share your knowledge with the counseling community! Resonant Equity invites presenters to submit proposals for trainings, courses, workshops, and presentations to counselors, counseling students, and counselor educators. In order for us to offer continuing education credit to participants who complete your training, the content must meet specific criteria as set by NBCC – which means this form is extensive! You may want to read through it to understand what we need, and then come back when you are ready to submit. Or, to make it easier, you can create an account in our system, and your draft will be saved here for you to work on before submitting.

If you already have a proposal for a workshop that meets all the requirements for NBCC CEs, then you may skip this form and instead email your proposal to us as a Word or PDF file, along with a resume or CV for every presenter, to info@resonantequity.org and we’ll review it that way. Be sure to include your references to support your learning objectives (this is the most common place where we need to request changes to content).

Program Proposal
The title should clearly indicate the clinical nature of the training and its applicability to mental health counselors.
If an exact date has been suggested, please include it here, otherwise we will work with you on scheduling. Thursdays and Fridays tend to be most preferred, though other days are always possible too.

Many courses do not meet any of these criteria, and that's fine! You can leave all of these blank if none of them apply.
NBCC Content Area
The Content Area determines the qualifications required of the instructor. Category 1 Presenters must hold a graduate degree in mental health and have education, experience, and training in the subject. Category 2 presenters must hold a graduate degree directly related to the subject and have education, experience, and training in the subject. Category 3 Presenters must have education, experience, and training in the subject. Resonant Equity prefers all presenters qualify as Category 1.
Requirements for Presenters Based on Content

Below are the qualifications required to present based on the selected NBCC Content Area that was chosen above. Each presenter's qualifications will be evaluated based on these guidelines when your proposal is reviewed.

Counseling Theory/Practice and the Counseling Relationship

Category 1 Presenter required.

Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Foundational and well-established counseling theories, principles, and techniques of counseling and their application in mental health settings
  • Diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.
  • Wellness and prevention within counseling and treatment.
  • Crisis intervention techniques for counselors to use in response to disaster or other rapid onset trauma-causing events, including but not limited to, psychological first aid strategies.
  • Psychophysiological awareness and mindfulness in the counseling process.
  • Distance counseling.
  • Biofeedback used in a mental health setting.

Human Growth & Development

Category 1 or 2 Presenter required for the following topics:

  • Foundational and well-established theories, including, but not limited to, personality theory, lifespan theory, learning theory, and human development theory.

Category 1, 2, or 3 Presenter allowed for the following topics:

  • End-of-life issues within the scope of practice of mental health professionals.
  • Information related to developmental crises; disabilities; and, situational, transitional, and environmental factors that affect behavior.

Social & Cultural Foundations

A Category 1 Presenter required for all program content related to the counseling and/or treatment of clients.

Category 1 Presenter required for:

  • Multicultural competency as a professional counselor (counseling and/or treatment of clients)

Category 1, 2, or 3 Presenter allowed for the following topics:

  • Societal subgroups
  • Societal changes and trends
  • Mores and interaction patterns
  • Major societal concerns
  • Social justice
  • Cross-cultural effects, such as acculturation, assimilation and multicultural and pluralistic trends

Group Dynamics and Counseling

Category 1 Presenter required.

Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Group counseling theories and group counseling leadership styles
  • Developmental stages in group counseling and related principles of group dynamics
  • Group counseling methods and skills
  • Group members’ roles and behaviors within a mental health setting

Career Development and Counseling

A Category 1 Presenter required for all program content related to the counseling and/or treatment of clients.

Category 1 Presenter required for:

  • Theories, principles, and techniques of counseling as applied to work and career
  • Career counseling processes and resources, including, but not limited to, those applicable to specific communities and populations
  • Career/life planning and decision-making models
  • Life-work role transitions, including, but not limited to, outplacement and retirement counseling

Category 1, 2, or 3 Presenter required for the following topics:

  • Career development program planning, resources, and program evaluation
  • Assessment of work place environment for purposes of job placement
  • Trends in job search
  • Career avocational, educational, occupational and labor market information, and resources and career information systems

Assessment

A Category 1 Presenter required for all program content related to the counseling and/or treatment of clients.

Category 1 Presenter required for:

  • Diagnostic interviewing
  • Clinical assessment and interpretation for use in treatment planning
  • Ethical strategies for selecting, administering, and interpreting assessment and evaluation instruments.

Category 1 or 2 Presenter required for the following topics:

  • Information on the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)
  • Implementation and interpretation of standardized assessment instrument protocols
  • New and existing assessments
  • Issues related to assessment development
  • Legal issues related to counselor authority to administer and interpret tests and inventories that assess psychopathology, abilities, interests, and career options
  • Information on basic classification, indication and contraindications of commonly prescribed psychopharmacological medications, in order to make appropriate referrals for medication evaluations, and to identify the side effects of medication

Research and Program Evaluation

A Category 1 Presenter required for all program content related to the counseling and/or treatment of clients.

Category 1 Presenter required for:

  • Critical evaluation of research findings and its clinical implications
  • Development of measurable outcomes for counseling interventions

Category 1 or 2 Presenter required for the following topics:

  • Foundational and well-established research design and methods
  • Statistics in research
  • Research report development and information on disseminating research findings
  • Critical evaluation of research findings

Counselor Professional Identity and Practice Issues

A Category 1 Presenter required for all program content related to the counseling and/or treatment of clients.

Category 1 Presenter required for:

  • NBCC and/or ACA ethical codes and conduct standards in professional counseling and/or counseling
    research
  • Ethical decision-making models directly related to counseling practice
  • NBCC certification, state licensure, and related mental health public policy
  • Professional counseling organizations and associations, limited to NBCC, CACREP, ACA and its branches and divisions
  • Roles and processes related to counselor advocacy on behalf of the profession and the client
  • The counselor’s role and function as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Starting and maintaining a counseling practice to include business-planning, quality control, service
    delivery, billing and reimbursement, fee-setting, capacity-building, referrals, and ethical marketing [Note: Business practice-specific content does not qualify for CEs in California, this content would need to be carefully vetted before approval]
  • Effective and ethical utilization of social media
  • Counselor self-assessment to address areas for ongoing professional growth
  • Critical analysis of emerging issues in the counseling profession
  • Clinical supervision models, practices, and processes for professional counselors
  • The counselor’s role and function as a professional consultant
  • The counselor’s role and function as a forensic interviewer

Category 1 or 2 Presenter required for the following topics:

  • Legal issues in professional counseling and/or counseling research

Category 1, 2 or 3 Presenter required for the following topics:

  • Self-care strategies and burnout prevention appropriate to the counselor role [Note: Self-care topics unlikely to qualify for CEs in California]
  • Grant writing for counselors and counseling programs [Note: Does not qualify for CEs in California]

Wellness and Prevention

A Category 1 Presenter required for all program content related to the counseling and/or treatment of clients.

Category 1, 2 or 3 Presenter required for the following topics:

  • Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM)
  • Community-based wellness initiatives
  • Conflict resolution
  • Sex education
  • Sleep hygiene
  • Nutrition
  • Anger management

Curriculum and Program Design

Please note: We will review all that you submit to make sure that it meets the requirements for us to award CE credits for this training. Through this process, we are likely to request changes to parts of your course curriculum. We will offer specific feedback and suggestions. Please expect at least one round of review with us in order to help ensure that the curriculum meets requirements for CEs and will be a high-quality training for our participants. If this is your first time presenting on this topic, then this process will help you create a strong course that you can then propose to other training organizations in the future.

Learning Objectives

At least 3 Learning Objectives required per hour of training. The Learning Objectives should clearly align with the NBCC Content Area specified above. Each Learning Objective needs to be supported by at least one source cited in the References. After the training, participants will be given a course evaluation where they will be asked how well each of the Learning Objectives was met. Ideally, at least one Learning Objective will be specifically focused on an aspect of equity, diversity, culture, and/or identity in counseling.

State explicitly how this training focuses on promoting equity in counseling, caring for clients holding non-dominant identities or belonging to marginalized populations, presents treatment, interventions, and considerations for cultural minorities, discusses power and privilege in counseling, or in some other way decolonizes the practice of mental health by centering those who are often overlooked, stigmatized, or pathologized.

Clinically Sound Content

All of the programs that Resonant Equity puts on are evidence based. That means that trainings on the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of our clients must be clinically sound, and consistent with well-established theories, principles, and techniques accepted by the professional mental health community, including the DSM. In promoting excellence in our workshops, we request that presenters provide from 3 to 5 references from peer-reviewed journals for every hour of training, with at least 2 of these being recent articles (within the last 5 or 10 years) presenting primary research (results of research that the authors of the article conducted themselves; if the article has a Methods section, it's likely to be primary research). Please submit these in APA format, either by pasting into the box below, or uploading as a Word or PDF file.
